A Jamaican man who was arrested in Grant County in June was sentenced on Friday to nearly two years in prison. The U.S. Department of Justice said 32 year old Andre Bowyer pleaded guilty in August to illegally reentering the U.S. He was sentenced to 21 months in prison on Friday. Bowyer arrested in Grant County in June as part of a mail fraud investigation. Prosecutors alleged that he admitted to paying a smuggler to bring him across the Mexican border in April or May of 2022. Bowyer was convicted of conspiracy to commit mail fraud in the Eastern District of Louisiana in 2017 after prosecutors alleged that he used a fake lottery scheme to scam elderly and vulnerable people out of their money. He was deported to Jamaica in March 2022 and was ordered not to reenter the U.S.
