All of the funds in a minimum revenue guarantee agreement incentivizing Avelo Airlines to provide commercial air service to Dubuque have been used — and officials say the agreement was a success. At the same time, the airline was forced to cancel three upcoming flights due to minimal bookings. Neither of those recent developments should worry residents about the future of commercial air service in Dubuque. Avelo Airlines announced last year that it would begin offering nonstop flights to and from Orlando, Fla., marking the return of commercial air service to Dubuque Regional Airport following the departure of American Airlines in September 2022. In September, Avelo expanded its local service by also offering direct flights between Dubuque and Las Vegas.
