The National Weather Service has scheduled a number of storm spotter weather training sessions in Southwest Wisconsin and Northeast Iowa. All classes are free, open to everyone and led by National Weather Service La Crosse meteorologists. Basic training will last approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, covering storm spotting basics such as severe weather safety, what or how to report. Basic plus Advanced training will last approximately 2 hours, covering all the basics as well as a deeper look into the meteorology of thunderstorms. The first in person class is 6:30 pm Monday-March 11th at the Elementary School in Viroqua. A virtual program is this Thursday-March 14th at 6:30 pm. Dubuque County has a program on Tuesday March 26, starting at 6 pm at the County Emergency Management Building on Public Safety Way on the west side of the city. A Grant County class is planned for the evening of April 2nd in Lancaster. The Seneca Town Hall will host the Crawford County weather meeting the evening of Thursday-April 18th. Storm spotting is recommended for adults-18 yrs or older. High school and Middle school students are welcome to attend the classes with a parent or other adult.
