On Monday, Dubuque City Council members passed a resolution to permanently close the railroad crossing at 15th Street. The city has plans to make major upgrades to another crossing – the one at 14th street. An official said that with those plans in the works, and with fewer cars using the 15th street crossing per day, it is difficult to justify the continued existence of that crossing. The closure ties into a much larger plan to turn downtown Dubuque into a quiet zone where trains aren’t required to blow their horns. That’s a plan some residents are eagerly awaiting.
