Drivers who use the Black Hawk Bridge over the Mississippi River will want to be aware of some upcoming closures. The Iowa DOT says construction work on a new pier as well as driving pier foundation for a new bridge will cause intermittent closures up to two hours beginning the week of June 17. Those closures will happen between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The DOT says the closures are to reduce vibration and limit the chance of damage. In February, the bridge closed for nearly two months as crews worked on repairs to structural integrity. A new bridge is being constructed that will replace the Black Hawk Bridge. Construction on that is set for completion in 2027. You can find updates on that project’s progress at the Iowa DOT’s website.
