A young alligator captured in a Grant County front yard last month has found a new home. A representative at Reptile Rescue of Wisconsin in Portage said that the critter was adopted. The rogue reptile first was spotted by Sandy Hook resident Sara Wagner on May 31. Wagner, who was hosting friends for a bonfire, noticed the alligator in a neighbor’s front yard. The animal was taken, to a DNR station, where it was kept before being transferred to the rescue facility in Portage and temporarily quarantined. The origins of the Grant County alligator are still unknown. As nobody came forward to claim the creature, the rescue facility allowed one of its frequent customers to adopt it. The state of Wisconsin has no rules or regulations regarding the ownership of alligators, local regulations may differ.
