The Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two vehicle crash on Highway 18 near Patch Grove Thursday around 6am. 44 year old David Drone of Bloomington was operating his Ford Ranger westbound on Highway 18. Drone was stopped in the lane of traffic waiting for eastbound traffic to pass so he could turn into a driveway off of Highway 18. At the same time, 60 year old Jeffery George of Mount Hope was traveling westbound behind Drone in his vehicle pulling a fishing boat. George stated he could not see Drone’s vehicle due to the sun shining in through the back window of his vehicle. George slammed into the back of Drone’s vehicle causing it to careen into the ditch on the south side and then roll into a parking lot on Highway 18. George was able to pull his vehicle and trailer to the north side of the road after the impact. Drone sustained injuries in the crash and was taken to Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien by West Grant EMS. Drone’s vehicle sustained severe rear end damages and remained in the parking lot where it came to rest. George was not injured in the crash but his vehicle sustained severe front end damages and was removed from the scene by Terry’s Towing of Boscobel. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. George was cited for Inattentive Driving.
