Mississippi River Drops Below Flood Stage

After 25 days above flood stage, the Mississippi River’s water level officially fell below minor flood stage on Friday evening, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The river dipped below flood stage — 17 feet — at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Dubuque’s railroad bridge and continued to fall throughout Saturday. By 3 p.m. Saturday, the water level had dropped to 16.5 feet. The river had been above flood stage since June 25, cresting at 22.3 feet on July 6. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers expects the river level to continue going down, falling below 15 feet — the level at which the National Weather Service takes flood mitigation actions — on Tuesday, July 23.
