A weeklong trip for Earlville resident Doug Dabroski to Gettysburg, Pa., and Washington, D.C., culminated with Dabroski placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. The former Marine and Vietnam War veteran, along with his wife, Karen, were on a recent Iowa Veterans DC Memorial Honor Tour — a bus trip that takes veterans to the Air Force and Marine museums, the 9/11 Flight 93 Memorial near Somerset, Pa., and Civil War battlefields at Gettysburg, as well as a tour of several memorials and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Dabroski, the only Marine on the trip, and the only combat veteran, was one of two from the group to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Dabroski said, “I don’t know how many people can ever say they laid a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery. It’s a great honor and a very moving experience and something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.”
