A Dubuque woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for beating an infant. 50-year-old Daphny Almendarez recently received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to one count of child endangerment resulting in bodily injury. The charge stems from a police investigation into Almendarez that began May 6 with a report of possible child abuse, court documents state. One of Almendarez’s neighbors reported seeing “multiple red markings on an infant’s lower back,” according to documents. Almendarez was babysitting a 7-month-old infant for approximately three days.
