A pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard Of Oz was sold at auction for $28 million, totaling $32.5 million with the buyer’s premium. They were initially estimated at $3 million. The shoes were stolen in 2005 from the Judy Garland Museum by an ex-mobster named Terry Martin, who assumed they contained real rubies because they had been insured for $1 million. The FBI recovered them in 2018 and Martin was indicted for the theft in 2023, ultimately leading to the staggering sale. The shoes are described as vintage Innes Shoe Co. red silk faille heels adorned with hand-sequined silk georgette, rhinestones, and bugles. (Variety)
