The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is going on a hiring freeze through June. The DPI confirmed the changes and said that public education is chronically underfunded. They pointed to the current state budget, which cut DPI funding by $2.3 million. Republicans said the hiring freeze is a good sign DPI is on the path to financial responsibility. State Superintendent Jill Underly has requested an additional $3 billion in the next state budget for public education.
