Grant County Jailer killed walking along Illinois highway

In a press release today, Grant County Sheriff Craig Reukauf announced the passing of Grant County Correctional Officer (Jailer) Dylan Bellamy. Dylan passed away on Saturday, February 8 after being struck by a motor vehicle while walking along the highway near Mattoon, IL. Preliminary investigation found that Bellamy was walking in the right lane of the highway 16 near Mattoon, IL when he was hit by a vehicle, which made him land in a different lane of traffic. He was subsequently hit by a second vehicle that was cited for DUI. The accident is still under investigation. Dylan joined the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in December of 2023. Dylan was also a member of the Army National Guard, and he was in Illinois for his training weekend with his unit which is based out of Mattoon, IL.
