On Thursday at approximately 7:45am, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received an automated crash alert at Big Platte Road just south of County Highway B. Deputies responded to the location and found that 16-year-old Weston Shea of rural Platteville, was driving northbound on Big Platte Road in Harrison Township with two 13-year-old juveniles. Shea stated as he was driving, the rear-end of the vehicle slid out slightly due to the snow covered roadway. Shea informed the deputy at that point, he intentionally tried to exaggerate the slide to attempt to drive out of it. However, Shea lost control of the vehicle and entered the ditch on the right side of the road. The front driver’s side corner of the vehicle struck a tree causing the vehicle to spin around and come to rest on the side of the road. Airbags deployed as a result of the crash and all occupants were wearing seat belts. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene. Shea and the passengers were uninjured. Shea was issued a citation for Failure to Keep Vehicle Under Control.
