Local Scouts marked a pair of historic occasions in Dubuque. Charlie Giese became the sixth recipient of the National Eagle Scout Association Outstanding Eagle Scout Award from the Northeast Iowa Council of Scouting America, and Audrey Kilgore and Erin Mensen were recognized as the first female Eagle Scouts in the council’s 108-year history. The three were honored at the council’s 64th annual Eagle Scout Recognition Brunch held Sunday at Diamond Jo Casino. The event drew about 150 people. Giese became an Eagle Scout in 1970. His award is presented to Eagle Scouts who have distinguished themselves in their life’s work and who have volunteered to benefit their communities. 18-year-old Kilgore of Dubuque, and 17-year-old Mensen of Manchester were among 25 local Scouts recognized for becoming Eagle Scouts — the highest award that a Scout can earn in Scouting.
