A driver is dead after a pursuit crossed county lines and ended in a crash Sunday evening in the Town of Blue Mounds, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) said. According to the DCI, a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper tried to pull a driver over along Highway 18/151 near mile marker 53 in Iowa County at around 6:20 p.m. The driver did not pull over, prompting a pursuit. The DCI said an Iowa County Sheriff’s deputy joined in the chase shortly after it began. The driver ultimately crashed near mile marker 65 in the Town of Blue Mounds. EMS responded but the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The DCI said no law enforcement or other members of the public were hurt during the pursuit. The DCI is investigating the pursuit and crash with assistance from a DCI Crime Response Specialist, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and Mount Horeb police. The DCI said all involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with the investigation. Once evidence is reviewed and the facts determined, the DCI will turn over its findings to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office.
