A funding mechanism that supports area nonprofit organizations marks a milestone this year. Grant payments from endowment funds hosted by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and its affiliates will top a record $5.3 million in 2025. The foundation’s endowments paid $250,000 in grants in 2006, $2 million in 2015 and $3.18 million in 2021. Launched in 2003, the foundation hosts a collection of endowment funds that enhance and support quality of life in the Dubuque region. As these investments grow, annual grants drawn from the earnings support about 250 nonprofit organizations in a seven-county area. Endowment funds are designed to exist in perpetuity, making them stable sources of funding for recipients.
