On Monday just after 6:30pm, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 35/61/81 at the intersection of Hwy 129, south of Lancaster. 55-year-old Randall Obrien of Benton was driving south on Hwy 129. Obrien had reportedly stopped at the intersection and looked to the left. Obrien reportedly saw oncoming traffic coming from the south, but he thought the oncoming traffic was in the turning lane to turn north onto Hwy 129. Obrien then proceeded to drive into the intersection in an attempt to turn south on Hwy 35/61/81. Obrien caused 16-year-old Kaia Kerkenbush who was not turning to crash into the driver’s side of Obrien’s vehicle. Minor injuries were reported, and both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Obrien was cited for inattentive driving. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Lancaster Police Department, Lancaster EMS, and Lancaster Fire.
