City of Galena officials recently released a first draft of an updated comprehensive plan that sets goals in areas from land use and development to community facilities and public infrastructure. The document updates the city’s comprehensive plan and charts a course for Galena’s progress through 2045. Parking was identified as residents’ top concern, but the document also suggests the city explore a more comprehensive shuttle system to reduce downtown traffic congestion and makes several suggestions to enhance the city’s housing stock. Galena City Administrator Matt Oldenburg said the consultant and planning commission will begin work on implementation strategies for the goals proposed. This summer, the city will host a community open house to receive public feedback. The planning commission then will review a final draft of the plan, which will come before the City Council for a public hearing and approval in late summer or early fall.
