University of Wisconsin-Platteville students led the way last weekend in the community’s continued efforts to clean up from a recent storm. Nearly two weeks ago, many Platteville residents woke up to damage and debris from an early morning hailstorm with baseball-sized hail. The National Weather Service reports there were damaged cars, windows, siding and rooftops around town. University of Wisconsin-Platteville reported significant damage to the Pioneer Greenhouse, several broken windows at Royce Hall, a few punctured solar panels and vehicle windshield damage. 300 student volunteers put in about four hours of work apiece Saturday at about 65 different job sites, generally doing landscaping and yard work. Outside of the university, there was damage to windows at City Hall and The Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums, as well as damage to Platteville Public Library’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system. Platteville high school and middle school both sustained roof damage from hail and wind, where repair work has been ongoing.
