Tree roots grew into and blocked a sanitary sewer pipe on Spring Valley Rd. and caused a sanitary sewer overflow Wednesday. The overflow caused an undetermined amount of untreated wastewater to flow into the storm sewer system at the intersection of Spring Valley Rd. and John F. Kennedy Rd. The City of Dubuque Public Works Department was notified of the overflow at approximately 7:30 a.m. and were on site by 8 a.m. Staff removed the blockage in the sewer pipe by approximately 9:15 a.m. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources cautions people to keep their children and pets away from the noted area, which is posted, for 48 hours.
