Wisconsin farmers are sounding the alarm over continued delays in passing an updated Farm Bill, warning that the holdup could have far-reaching consequences for both agricultural producers and consumers. Members of the Wisconsin Farmers Union gathered at Burns Park in La Crosse Thursday as part of National Farmers Union Week of Action to press legislators to pass a new Farm Bill. The demonstration comes as farmers across the state face mounting challenges including rising input costs and federal funding cuts. Congress has not written a new Farm Bill since 2018, instead opting to extend the existing legislation twice since 2023. The latest extension is set to expire in September, creating a sense of urgency among agricultural advocates. Union representatives emphasized that these delays and short-term extensions leave farmers exposed to unnecessary risk at a time when they’re already facing significant challenges.
