The father of the teenager who opened fire at Abundant Life Christian School last December made an initial court appearance on Friday. 42-year-old Jeffrey Rupnow of Madison is charged with two felony counts of intentionally selling dangerous weapons to a minor and one felony count of contributing to child delinquency. During Friday’s court appearance, Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne asked the court to set Rupnow’s bond at $100,000, noting the impact of the school shooting but acknowledging that Rupnow was not the one that fired the gun. Ultimately, a $20,000 cash bond was set. Rupnow’s daughter was the shooter who killed two people and injured six others at Abundant Life Christian School on Dec. 16, 2024. Rupnow is accused of allowing his daughter easy access to guns despite knowing of her mental health issues and concerning activities online. As a condition of his bond, Rupnow must wear a GPS monitor, cannot have any contact with Abundant Life Christian School and cannot purchase or possess any firearms. His next court appearance is set for June 9.
