Officials said a fire caused extensive damage to a Dubuque home. First responders received a call at 4:52 a.m. Saturday from a resident reporting his deck on Hillcrest Road was on fire. Responders extinguished a fire on the exterior of the residence and in the kitchen and dining rooms. The fire was determined to be accidental due to a discarded cigarette in an ashtray on the deck, the release states. The home was habitable, though utilities had to be shut off and the tenant was working with the landlord on further arrangements. Losses were estimated at $28,000.
