Galena-Jo Daviess County Historical Society officials seek the public’s help to raise matching funds for a recently unfrozen federal grant. The $576,000 matching grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which the society plans to use to fund aspects of the new Galena & U.S. Grant Museum project, had been halted since the White House froze spending on federal loans and grants earlier this year. However, the society recently received confirmation that it will get the grant. The grant will match whatever amount of money the society is able to raise, up to $576,000. About 10% of the maximum match has been raised thus far. The current grant deadline is in September, but the society is seeking an extension.
