UW-Platteville’s campus remains open, but finals are cancelled following a “situation” in a residence hall. Just before 4 PM Monday a 911 call was made regarding a situation in Wilgus Hall on UW-Platteville’s campus. A shelter in place was issued and a perimeter was established around Wilgus Hall. Emergency responders quickly determined there was no active, ongoing threat and were able to lift the shelter in place just after 5 PM. Very little information regarding the incident itself is available. UW-Platteville Chief of Police Joe Hallman emphasized it was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat. The Department of Criminal Investigations is assisting UW-Platteville Police. During a press briefing UW-Platteville Chancellor Tammy Evetovich said,
Audio PlayerFinal exams for the remainder of the week have been cancelled for both the Platteville and Baraboo campuses, so faculty and students have time to process the incident. Dean of Students Amber Monroe said counselling services are available to students and triage will be from 8 AM to 4 PM starting Tuesday through Friday. Students who are directly impacted received individual communications. Platteville School District Superintendent, Jim Boebel said in an email that counseling will be available at the schools for anyone who may have been impacted. In a Facebook post Governor Tony Evers stated he has been briefed on the situation and he will remain in close contact with university officials.
