Dubuque Community School Board members are expected to consider approving language for a petition to call for a $70 million general obligation bond at their upcoming meeting. The board will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, at the Forum. The bond would help fund construction of a new middle school at the current site of Washington Middle School. Jefferson Middle School would be closed, and the new middle school would operate as a feeder school to one of the district’s two high schools along with Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School. The estimated total cost of the new middle school is $121.9 million, to be funded through the bond and $51.9 million in borrowing against future revenues from the district’s 1-cent sales tax fund.
