A late email from UW-Platteville has identified the two students involved in the incident in Wilgus Hall on Monday. Around 11 PM Monday an email was sent to UW-Platteville students and staff saying the community is mourning the loss of two students. 22-year-old Kelsie Martin of Beloit and 22-year-old Hallie Helms of Baraboo were identified as the individuals from the Wilgus Hall incident. The email stated that it was a targeted incident between the two individuals and the families of the students have been notified. The email also stated that University Counseling will be offering triage counseling Tuesday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. In addition, a toll-free emotional support line is available at 844.602.6680 or 720.272.0004, staffed by mental health professionals. The line will be available overnight from Monday into Tuesday, with hours of operation adjusted as needed based on demand.
Just before 4 PM Monday a 911 call was made regarding a situation in Wilgus Hall on UW-Platteville’s campus. A shelter in place was issued and a perimeter was established around Wilgus Hall. Emergency responders quickly determined there was no active, ongoing threat and were able to lift the shelter in place just after 5 PM. Very little information regarding the incident itself is available. UW-Platteville Chief of Police Joe Hallman emphasized it was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat.
