Memorial Day travelers planning to cross between Iowa and Wisconsin via the Blackhawk Bridge will need to find alternative routes over the holiday weekend. The Iowa Department of Transportation says that the bridge connecting Lansing, Iowa, and Crawford County, Wisconsin, will remain closed through the Memorial Day weekend. The closure began Sunday when sensors detected movement on one of the bridge’s piers, prompting immediate safety concerns. Engineers have been inspecting the structure since then but have not yet determined when the bridge can safely reopen. Transportation officials have not indicated the severity of the structural issues or provided an estimate forA how long repairs might take once the full assessment is complete.
