The all-time winningest basketball coach in Wisconsin high school history has died. Jerry Petitgoue died at a Madison hospital on Saturday. Petitgoue was the boys basketball coach at Cuba City High School for 51 years before retiring in 2023. He won 1,027 games between Cuba City and Gratiot High School. His Cubans teams won state championships in 1981, 1991 and 1997. The 2020 Cuba City team went undefeated and Petitgoue was named the National Federation of High Schools coach of the year. His teams made five additional state tournament appearances and won 23 conference titles. Petitgoue was a social studies teacher at Cuba City High School. He was a native of Galena and graduated from Galena High School and the University of Dubuque.
