A rural Dubuque County man was sentenced to two years of probation after authorities said he was impaired when he crashed his vehicle with a child passenger. 40-year-old Jeffrey J. Hurst recently received the sentence in Iowa District Court of Dubuque County after pleading guilty to charges of possession of marijuana and operating while intoxicated. The charges stem from an incident Feb. 23, when court documents state Hurst was involved in a one-vehicle crash in the area of Highway 52 South and Settlers Lane. Hurst was identified as the driver of the vehicle. He told a deputy that he lost control of the vehicle and it entered a ditch. Neither Hurst nor a child occupant of the vehicle were injured in the crash. Hurst failed a standardized field sobriety test and was found in possession of a THC wax pen.
