Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) is asking for increased security ahead of a planned floor session at the Wisconsin State Capitol after two Minnesota lawmakers were shot over the weekend. Wisconsin State Capitol Police are dedicated officers stationed in the statehouse, but there is relatively little security at the building. Visitors are able to enter and exit from numerous doors and are not subject to security searches. In 2023, a man went into the Capitol with a handgun and later returned to the building with an AK-47 before being arrested a second time. On Saturday, a man shot two Democratic Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses at their homes, but officers found a list of around 70 names, including Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Rep. Mark Pocan, in the suspect’s vehicle.
