On Sunday, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a large amount cattle in the road on Highway 61 near Tobins 80 Lane, in the Township of Potosi. While Deputies were en route, the Sheriff’s Office was notified that a vehicle had struck some of those animals. When deputies arrived, they learned the cattle belonged to Gerald Kerkenbush of Potosi. Deputies also learned 18-year-old Marissa Robey of Dubuque was traveling southbound on Highway 61 when she struck multiple cows. During the investigation, Deputies were informed that 53-year-old Jess Johnson of Viroqua was traveling northbound on Highway 61. Johnson passed multiple vehicles which had with their hazards on in a careless manner while flashing his bright lights, which was a contributing factor in the traffic accident. Kerkenbush was cited for livestock at large. Johnson was cited for failure to dim headlights, unreasonable and imprudent speed, and unsafe passing. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Potosi Fire Department.
