A police chase ended with a shots fired incident Thursday morning in Savanna. According to a media release, around 10 p.m. Wednesday Freeport police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. When officers found the vehicle, officials said the driver fled and hit a squad car. Officers eventually lost the vehicle and ended the chase. Later Wednesday night, a Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Deputy found the stolen vehicle near Hanover, Illinois. A short chase began then was ended. Officials said the suspect was found near Savanna around 3:40 a.m. on Thursday. During the chase in Savanna, officials said the suspect hit another squad car. Around 3:45 a.m. officials said the first shots fired call was reported. A second report of shots fired came around 3:48 a.m. Moments later, officials said the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Chicago and Park Streets. The vehicle hit a Mount Carroll Police Department squad car. At 3:49 a.m. officers made physical contact with the suspect and officials said additional shots were fired. Officials said multiple officers from the Savanna Police Department, Mount Carroll Police Department and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office were injured and taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was injured and officials said he was airlifted to a regional hospital where he is listed as “stable”. The incident is under investigation from Illinois State Police.
