On Saturday at 10:43AM, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a hit and run crash that occurred on County A just east of Highway 129 in South Lancaster Township. It was reported that a dark colored SUV struck a bicyclist and continued driving west on County A at a high rate of speed. Lancaster EMS was dispatched to the scene. When Deputies arrived on scene, they located parts from the offending vehicle. While EMS personnel were treating the victim, Deputies began to search the area for a dark colored SUV with damage to the passenger side and missing a passenger side mirror. A short time later, Grant County Dispatch received a report of a disabled vehicle on County E, approximately a mile east of Highway 61. Deputies responded to the scene and found a dark gray SUV parked along the road with a flat front passenger tire and damage to the front passenger side including a missing side mirror. The driver, 54 year old John Goomey, of Platteville showed signs of impairment. Goomey was taken into custody and booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury, and Hit and Run Causing Great Bodily Harm. The victim was transported to Grant Regional Health Center and then immediately transported to UW Hospital by Med Flight for further treatment of their injuries. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Lancaster Police Department, Lancaster Fire Department, and Lancaster EMS.
