Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird announced that she will seek re-election in 2026. Ending speculation that she would jump into the Governor’s race after Kim Reynolds’ announcement not to run again. In a statement, Bird acknowledged the encouragement she’s received from supporters urging her to enter the governor’s race, but said she’s committed to continuing the work she began in 2022. Bird emphasized her dedication to law enforcement, crime victims, and constitutional protections, framing her re-election campaign as a defense against what she called a “radical, progressive Democrat” who she says would work to undo all she has accomplished. Bird also pledged to support the Republican nominee for governor and the broader GOP ticket in 2026.
