A man involved in an altercation at a Grant County bar last month that led to the arrest of an Illinois man died a day later. According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, the altercation was reported at 12:43 a.m. on June 29 at the Ship Wreck Bar in the Village of Bagley. One person was taken to Crossing Rivers Health Center in Prairie du Chien because of injuries sustained in the altercation, and was later transferred to Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse. 34-year-old Jason Britton of Colona, Ill. was arrested for disorderly conduct. One of the men involved in the altercation was found dead in his Fennimore home on June 30. He was taken to University Hospital in Madison for an autopsy. The Grant County Coroner’s Office and UW Hospital were still working Tuesday to determine the cause and manner of the man’s death. That process could take multiple weeks to complete. The altercation remains under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
