Construction could begin next month on a $3.5 million project to restore and remodel the city of East Dubuque’s aging police station. This week, East Dubuque City Council members approved awarding a notice of intent for the project — which will transform the police station into an updated facility for the city’s Police and Fire departments — to Tricon General Construction, with a base bid of $3.56 million. The police station, located on Sinsinawa Ave., has seen significant water, mold and mildew damage, and the Police Department has operated out of a temporary building behind City Hall for over two years. City Manager Bob Seitz said crews are currently completing exterior work such as tuckpointing ahead of the major renovations, which will likely kick off in August and last for about a year.
