The Dubuque County Board of Supervisors will appoint a new county recorder in August to fill the vacant position left by Karol Kennedy’s resignation last week. At a meeting today, the supervisors decided to appoint a new recorder to serve until the next county election in November 2026, when the position is on the ballot again. The supervisors opted not to fill the role via a special election — which would cost the county around $80,000. Applications for county recorder are open until 4:30 p.m. Aug. 1. Those interested in the position are asked to email resumes to County Auditor Keith Lucy at keith.lucy@dubuquecountyiowa.gov, with a subject line including “Recorder application.” Applicants must have lived in Dubuque County at least 60 days at the time of the appointment.
