A man arrested in Nebraska for allegedly killing a woman in Dodgeville, Wisconsin will remain in Nebraska for at least six weeks. According to news outlets in Lincoln, 23-year-old Gavin Thompson appeared in court for an extradition hearing – but the judge postponed it. During the hearing, the judge denied a request for a competency evaluation, citing concerns about using Nebraska taxpayers’ money since the crime Thompson is accused of committing occurred out of their state. Thompson is charged in Wisconsin with killing Dorinda Segebrecht, and leading Nebraska authorities on a chase that ended in a crash. According to authorities, Segebrecht’s body was found in the back of the car. In Wisconsin, Thompson is facing charges of first-degree intentional homicide, burglary while armed with a dangerous weapon, hiding a corpse and operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent. Wisconsin officials have 90 days to file for the extradition. For now, Thompson remains in the Lancaster County Jail, with his next court appearance scheduled for Sept. 16.
