Early Thursday morning the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a two-vehicle crash on Highway 20 E. ¼ mile West of S. Golf Rd., in rural Stockton, IL. Upon arrival, Deputies learned 19-year-old Yanoris A. Martinez-Murillo of Freeport was driving west on Highway 20. Martinez-Murillo attempted to pass a semi in a passing zone. While attempting to pass the semi in the eastbound lane, Martinez-Murillo struck an oncoming vehicle, driven by 63-year-old James R. Prestly of Dubuque. Martinez-Murillo was transported to Freeport Hospital by Stockton EMS for non-life-threating injuries. Prestly refused medical treatment on scene. Martinez-Murillo was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and improper overtaking. This accident remains under investigation.
