Early Monday morning, shortly after midnight, the Iowa County Communications Center received a report of a wrong way driver on Highway 18 near County Road XX in Eden Township. The vehicle in question narrowly avoided a head on collision with a Lancaster ambulance carrying EMS and law enforcement personnel returning from an out of county transport. Iowa County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the vehicle in Cobb and made contact with the driver. As a result, 24-year-old Elias Gonzalez Tolentino of Highland was arrested for OWI 1st offense, Possession of Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle and Operating without a Valid License 2nd within 3 years. He was transported to the Iowa County Jail where he was booked and later released after posting bond.
