A Portage police officer accused of abusing his six-month-old son saw his cash bond set at $10,000 during an initial appearance in a Sauk County courtroom Wednesday. Prosecutors asked that Cameron Coronado’s bond be set at $10,000, citing his alleged abusive behavior and questioning his willingness to answer to the charges against him. Attorneys representing Coronado asked for a signature bond. 32-year-old Coronado is charged with child abuse and disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier. A criminal complaint alleges he shoved a pacifier down his infant son’s throat so hard that it caused a cut in the baby’s throat and bleeding on his brain. As a condition of his bond, Coronado cannot have contact with his wife or children, however a third party can go to their home to collect some of his personal belongings. Coronado is a patrol officer with the Portage Police Department. He was placed on paid administrative leave after charges were filed against him on Monday. A preliminary hearing in the case is set for Sept. 3.
