The Iowa County Sheriff’s Department is reminding residents to slow down. At 70 mph, it takes over 400 feet to stop — more than a football field. As we head into the busy holiday weekend, the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department is reminding all drivers to slow down and stay alert. In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s department shares some recent examples of excessive speeds that happened recently. In Rewey a person was cited at 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. In Cobb there has been two examples of excessive speed. The first vehicle was cited at 73 mph in a 30 mph zone and the second at 63 mph in a 30-mph zone. In the post, the Sheriff’s Department reminds residents to Obey posted speed limits, stay alert for pedestrians, bicyclists, and heavier holiday traffic, allow extra travel time, and to never drive impaired or distracted.
