Like so many campuses in the past week, UW-Madison police had a call about an active shooter threat on campus and thanks to preparation, they were able to determine it was false, before panic spread throughout campus. Just after 11 a.m. the Dane County Communications Center received a call to its non-emergency line from an individual stating there was a person with an automatic rifle inside the Memorial Library and said there had been two shots fired. W-PD Executive Director of Communications, Marc Lovicott said that red flags went up when only one call came in. After pulling up security footage they verified everything on campus was business as usual. In the event there were an active shooter, UW-PD is prepared. They practice active shooter drills every year.
