The Cassville Car Ferry will possibly winter in Lansing, Iowa this year. The Iowa Department of Transportation announced in July that the existing bridge connecting Lansing, Iowa to De Soto, Wisconsin will close in the fall to allow construction on the new bridge. This announcement left many residents concerned about the river crossing. During a bridge talk this month Lansing mayor Mike Verdon said the 16-car Cassville Ferry would serve free of charge in Lansing during its offseason. The ferry would operate 16 hours per day, seven days a week on a regular schedule. An official from Cassville said plans with the ferry are not final and contract negotiations are ongoing.
*An earlier version of this story stated the contract has been finalized, but WGLR News has confirmed negotiations are ongoing.
