The Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate an incident in which a woman was killed in a hit-and-run collision. 37-year-old Nicole Burke of South Wayne, Wis., was found deceased at the scene of an incident that authorities believe occurred Thursday night. According to a press release, investigators have not identified the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident. The release states the vehicle “will have front and/or passenger side damage,” and possible damage to the passenger side headlight or passenger side mirror. Authorities were dispatched shortly after 11 a.m. Friday to the 8800 block of Illinois 78 North, just northwest of Warren, for a report of an unresponsive person lying in a ditch. First responders determined the person, identified as Burke, was deceased. Authorities ask that anyone who might have witnessed the incident or has information contact the sheriff’s department.
