In a somewhat unusual circumstance, the Platteville Common Council has filled a vacancy. Platteville residents Steven Badger and Matthew Niehaus applied to fill the vacancy. Both votes to fill the seat at the council meeting Tuesday resulted in a 3-3 tie, leading Niehaus to concede, upon which council members voted, 4-2, to appoint Badger to the seat. The city began the process to fill the at-large council seat after Council Member Tom Nall announced in July that he was resigning to focus on a health issue. The city decided to fill the seat via appointment. Badger will serve the remainder of Nall’s term, which ends in April 2027, after which he could seek election to the office.
