Van Orden introduces legislation to prohibit federal funding for entities celebrating political violence

Congressional Republican Derrick Van Orden is calling for federal funding to be cut from municipalities including Eau Claire in response to comments made by elected officials. In a post to his official X account Monday, Congressman Van Orden references comments made by Eau Claire City Council members Aaron Brewster and Joshua Miller following Charlie Kirk’s assassination last week. In it, the congressman threatens to stop “millions of dollars for the city of Eau Claire” if the situation is “not rectified immediately.” In a release Monday afternoon, Van Orden’s office confirmed he’s introduced legislation that would prohibit, “federal funding for entities that employ individuals who condone and celebrate political violence and domestic terrorism.”
