Leaders in Lancaster are chipping away at raising funds for a major fire station renovation while emphasizing the urgency of the project. The project includes numerous safety improvements to the city’s fire station and EMS headquarters, as well as forward-looking renovations, such as expanded training space and added sleeping quarters, in case the volunteer entity transitions to a full-time department. The city has pursued the approximately $2.25 million project for several years, but last year’s receipt of $1.125 million in federal funding, or half the project cost, gave it a major boost. The community has to raise the remaining 50%. Recent donations and grants leave a funding gap of roughly $545,000, according to City Administrator Michael Kuchta. Construction on the project is tentatively slated to begin in May 2026, with completion in mid-2027.
